Your first one?
No time limit and no cut-off. If you can run a few kilometres and you're prepared to have a rough time in the middle of it, you'll finish. Most first-timers grab a mate for Doubles and split the work.
NelsonFitness Race
Eight kilometres of running. Eight strength stations. The same format, a new city — the South Island's second fitness race is coming to Nelson.
Eight kilometres of running, broken up by eight strength stations, across two race days in Nelson. The same stations in the same order at the same weights as the format raced internationally, judged honestly and close to home. And if you've never raced one, this is a straightforward way to find out how you'd go.
Individual, doubles or a relay of four, Open weights, seven age grades, and a full adaptive division. Nothing here counts towards official rankings or qualification — what you get is the format, honestly judged, close to home. No time limit. Everyone finishes.

How you can enter
Race it solo, share it with one other, or split it four ways. Whichever you pick, it's the same eight stations and the same eight kilometres.
Solo
The ultimate individual benchmark.
Individual · You do it all
- Every one of the eight runs and eight stations is yours, start to finish
- Ranked within your own age grade
2-person team
Split the workload and the runs with a workout partner.
Doubles · A team of two
- Both of you run all eight kilometres together
- Split the work at each station between you
- You stay together the whole way — on every run and at every station
- Same-sex or mixed pairs
4-person relay
High energy, fast paced — just two stations each.
Relay · A team of four
- Each of the four does two of the runs and two of the stations
- Tag out in the changeover zone
- Same-sex or mixed teams
Most relay teams are just four mates. There's also an optional immediate-family division for teams who want it: all four from one immediate family, with at least one member from a different generation — a parent racing with their kids, say. Enter it only if that's you; everyone else races the standard relay.
